Takhlakh Lake Campground sits at about 4,400 feet on the shore of its namesake lake, in a heavily shaded setting at the foot of Mt. Adams with clear sightlines to Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens. The loop-style campground contains 54 back-in sites in total: 44 sites are set up for both RVs and tents and 10 are tent-only; parking spurs are unpaved and range from about 15 to 40 feet, so larger rigs should check spur length when reserving. There is no drinking water on site, but each site has a picnic table and a campfire ring and vault toilets are available; several sites and campground features meet current accessibility standards. Staffing is limited, so plan ahead and call (360) 686-3008 or check Recreation.gov for up-to-date information and seasonal openings. Outdoor options center on short walks and longer hikes off the campground: the family-friendly Takhlakh Loop and the more open Takhlakh Meadow Trail both begin nearby, and trailheads connecting to the Pacific Crest Trail and the Highline Trail are a short drive away for backpackers seeking extended ridgeline views. The lake is reserved for non-motorized craft only, making it a calm place to paddle a kayak or canoe and to fish for rainbow trout, and the surrounding Gifford Pinchot National Forest supports many other activities year-round (biking, horseback riding, OHV routes, wildlife viewing and more) for visitors who explore beyond the lake. Reservations are recommended; note the campground charges an $8 extra-vehicle fee and enforces cancellation and no-show fees (a $10 fee for cancellations made two or more days in advance, larger forfeitures for last-minute cancellations and a $20 service fee for no-shows), and refunds must be requested within seven days of a reservation's end. Access is rural: from I-5 you'll travel east on US-12 to Randle and then follow State Highway 131 and Forest Road 23 (the last seven miles of Forest Road 23 are gravel) before turning onto Forest Road 2329 to the campground.
