“The area was fairly dispersed with a pretty creek nearby. There were bathrooms. We just slept here overnight and hit the road the next day.”

Blue Lake Creek Campground sits in a shady stand of maple trees and ferns with a small brook running through open, grassy sites a simple, woodsy basecamp rather than a full-service RV park. There are 11 back-in sites total, each with a paved parking spur 20 to 30 feet long; all 11 are designated to accommodate both tents and RVs, but sites offer minimal privacy from one another. You'll find basic amenities only: picnic tables, metal grills and vault toilets; there are no hookups and no potable water on site, so plan to arrive with your own supply. An extra-vehicle fee of $8 applies, and because the site is popular with off-highway-vehicle (OHV) riders the campground can become noisy when trail bikes are coming and going. The facility is lightly staffed call (360) 686-3008 for updates and campsites are reservable; note the reservation policies (a $10 cancellation fee for changes up to two days before arrival, forfeiture and service fees for last-minute cancellations or no-shows, and a seven-day window for refund requests). Blue Lake Creek is positioned for multi-use trail access more than lakeside lounging: the campground opens onto the Valley Trail system (used by OHV riders, mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders) that connects to more than 50 miles of motorized routes, and the shorter High Log Trail is strictly for foot traffic down to the Cispus River where fishing and other water activities are possible. Hikers wanting the turquoise waters and mountain scenery of Blue Lake follow Valley Trail #270 to the Blue Lake Trail a moderately difficult route. The campground lies in the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District of Gifford Pinchot National Forest in southwest Washington, within reach of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and several designated wilderness areas managed from this district, making it a convenient staging point for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and OHV outings; use State Highway 12 to Randle, then State Highway 131 and Forest Road 23 (past North Fork Campground) to reach Blue Lake Creek.
