“ No potable water within two miles. Half of the restrooms closed. ”
“We had site 84 and was flooded out of our campsite. We had to leave a day early due to heavy rain and literally had to bucket out the water inside our tents.”
“Generally not bad but in need of some upkeep.”

Important: Gold Basin Campground is currently undergoing construction and is closed until further notice. When open, the site sits beside the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River about 13.5 miles east of Granite Falls along the Mountain Loop Highway, surrounded by old-growth cedar, fir and hemlock and with views of the snowfields on Mt. Baker on clear days. Trails thread the riparian forest and moss-covered boulders, and the Gold Basin Mill Pond interpretive trail located just across the road offers a short, barrier-free walk past mill relics that ends on a floating viewpoint with signs explaining the area's natural and cultural history. The campground serves as a convenient base for fishing the Stillaguamish, day hikes and mountain biking in adjacent wilderness, horseback riding on nearby routes, and winter sports like skiing and snowshoeing; broader attractions such as the North Cascades and the Pacific Crest Trail are also within easy reach for longer outings. Facilities lean toward a developed, accessible camping experience: there are 48 campsites in total 47 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site plus a large group site that can handle up to 75 people. Picnic areas, a large open field for games and group activities, potable drinking water, firewood sales, showers and flush toilets are on site, making this one of the more service-rich campgrounds along the Mountain Loop Highway. Sites are reservable in advance; note that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. For the latest status, reservations or facility-specific questions while the campground is closed for construction, call the local office at (360) 386-8214.
