“Not many people there, and we were far from a restroom, so the host let us change our location so that we were right across from the restroom. Thanks, B. Madsen”
“Best smelling campground I have been in. Fresh and piney. Not dusty.”

Perched at about 9,000 feet east of Huntsville along Highway 39, Monte Cristo Campground sits in a forest of aspen and spruce where summer wildflowers carpet the meadows and autumn leaves produce vivid color. The road to the site is itself part of the draw the scenic drive through Ogden Canyon and along Highway 39 is popular with motorcyclists and road cyclists and trails radiate outward for hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and off-highway vehicle users. Sugar Pine Creek runs nearby, and the broader Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest offers fishing, boating at nearby reservoirs, wildlife viewing and interpretive opportunities; the Ogden River Scenic Byway and Pineview Reservoir lie within easy reach for a day trip off site. The campground has 46 total campsites (all configured to accept both RVs and tents) and includes two larger group sites that can each accommodate up to 100 people; single sites generally serve family parties with a posted capacity. Sites are outfitted with picnic and serving tables, grills, campfire circles and concrete site pads that make RV and trailer setup straightforward; sanitation is covered by a mix of flush and vault toilets, with drinking water and trash collection provided. Fees are posted on Recreation.gov and may be paid by cash, check or Scan & Pay via the app: single sites are $29 per night, group sites $272, extra vehicles $10, walk-in visitors $8 per person and day use is $15. Reservations, changes and cancellations are handled through Recreation.gov (or by calling 1-877-444-6777); note a $10 service fee applies to changes or cancellations, late cancellations may forfeit the first night's fee and no-shows can incur additional penalties, and refund requests must be made within 14 days of departure. For facility-specific questions call the local number at (385) 273-1100; the campground sits across the highway from the Monte Cristo Guard Station, making it straightforward to find once you're on Highway 39.
