What guests say

“Loved it, the campsite was nice and clean. The scenery was breathtaking ”

Yadhira R 5 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We've camped in the same site in the past, it's a great spot next to the river. The campground is nice. A disappointment was that when we arrived the concrete pad had not been swept and was full of dirt, leaves and twigs. It was so bad we swept it ourselves”

Craig H 4 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

About

Perched at about 5,200 feet along the South Fork of the Ogden River, South Fork Campground sits roughly seven miles east of Huntsville on Highway 39 and offers direct river access that draws anglers and tubers year after year. The campground has 42 sites in total: 34 single sites (each listed for up to 8 people at $29 a night) and eight double sites (capacity up to 16 people, $58 a night), and every site is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents on cement site pads. Sites come with picnic tables, campfire rings and utility tables; roads and parking spurs are gravel, vault toilets and drinking water are on site, and the host sells firewood. Walk-in visitors pay $8 each, day-use is $15, and extra vehicles are $10; payments accepted include cash, check, or Scan & Pay via the recreation.gov app. For facility-specific questions call (385) 273-1100, and reservations, changes or cancellations go through Recreation.gov (or by phone at 1-877-444-6777). The riverfront setting is framed by cottonwoods and willows, and wildlife such as deer and the occasional moose may wander through the loops; the South Fork itself is the campground's main draw for fishing and tubing, and several hiking and mountain biking routes begin nearby. Beyond the campground, Ogden Valley and the broader Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest offer auto touring, boating, horseback and off-highway vehicle trails, and easy day trips to Pineview Reservoir for swimming and boating or Causey Reservoir for canoeing and trail access; Highway 39 continues toward Monte Cristo Summit for scenic drives and more trailheads. Be aware of reservation policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) for individual campsites incur the $10 fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee, and no-shows may be assessed a $20 fee plus forfeited use fees. Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days after your scheduled departure; recreation.gov will show charges as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777" on your statement.
