Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (29 reviews, ★ 5.0). Not written or edited by us.
“There was no creek access at this site. The “tent pad” wasn’t even and very close to the next site with little to no privacy ”
“We really enjoyed our stay at the camp ground. Most of our visit we where all alone. So it was nice and quiet and peaceful.”
“Excellent fire pit and picnic table. Everything as clean as you can expect outdoors! Nice little path to the river. Lots of trees for shade. No complaints”

Magpie Campground sits at about 5,200 feet on the banks of the South Fork of the Ogden River, roughly 6 miles east of Huntsville along Highway 39 as you head through Ogden Canyon toward Monte Cristo. The site is ringed by river-bottom vegetation mostly cottonwoods and the river runs immediately adjacent, which is why fishing and river tubing are the campground's main draws. The facility is small and intimate: nine campsites in total, each designated to accommodate both RVs and tents. At each site you'll find a picnic table and a metal fire ring; vault toilets serve the loop. Day-use visitors pay $15, extra vehicles are $10 each, and walk-in visitors are charged $8 per person. Payment is accepted by cash, check, or Scan & Pay through the Recreation.gov app. Because the campground is compact, reservations are a good idea and come with standard Recreation.gov rules: a $10 service fee is withheld from any refund, and late cancellations (the day before or the day of arrival) incur that $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount). Changing dates entirely outside your original reservation carries a $10 change fee; no fee is charged for extending or shortening a stay if the new dates include days from the original booking. No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night. Refund requests can be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends, and interagency pass discounts (Senior/Golden Age, Senior/Golden Access, and Access/Golden Access types) apply only to individual campsite recreation fees and only when the pass holder occupies the site. Beyond the river, the immediate area offers trailheads for hiking and mountain biking, and the broader Ogden Valley has abundant recreation: Pineview Reservoir (boating, fishing, swimming), Causey Reservoir (canoeing, fishing, trails), extensive ATV and horseback routes, and scenic drives up to Monte Cristo Summit.
