About

Washington Lake Campground sits at about 10,000 feet along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway in the Uinta Mountains, with a ring of pines along the lake that offers limited shade and a classic high-alpine feel summer days typically run 50 85°F and wildflowers pepper the shoreline. The lake itself is a quiet spot for canoeing, kayaking and trout fishing (rainbow, brook, cutthroat, tiger and albino trout are reported), and the popular Crystal Lake Trail begins within the campground. Beyond the immediate shoreline you'll find a dense network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle use that lead to other high lakes and streams; several trailheads along the byway also provide access into the High Uintas Wilderness. For drivers, the site is reached from Kamas on UT-150 (the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway), turning onto Forest Road 041 for the short approach to the campground. The campground is compact but well equipped: there are 44 total campsites 43 that accommodate both RVs and tents and one that is RV-only split among 35 single sites (capacity 8; $29/night), 4 double sites (capacity 16; $58/night), three small group sites (rate $166, capacities listed as 30/50), one small group site ($182, capacity 50) and one large group site ($243, capacity 100). Group sites come with picnic/serving tables, campfire circles, grills, concrete site pads and limited tent pads and parking; single and double family sites have picnic and utility tables, campfire rings and concrete pads (some with tent pads), and while the group sites do not face the lake most single and double sites offer nice lake views. The campground provides vault toilets, trash collection, paved roads and parking spurs, and firewood is available from the host; payment is accepted by cash, check or Scan & Pay through the Recreation.gov app. Reservation and cancellation rules are handled through Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777): changes or cancellations carry a $10 service fee, late cancellations (day before or day of arrival) typically forfeit the first night and may incur additional fees, no-shows can be assessed a $20 fee and forfeit use fees, and refund requests must be made within 14 days of scheduled departure. For facility-specific questions call (385) 273-1100. Day use is $15 and extra vehicles are $10 each.
