Shady Dell Campground sits along the bends of the Lower Provo River at about 8,200 feet in the Uinta Mountains, where stands of pine, fir and aspen shade 18 campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs. Each site comes with a picnic table and a metal fire ring, and the campground is serviced by vault toilets; the river runs close enough that willow thickets edge the campsites and fishing access is a short walk from many sites. The setting is tightly focused on river- and forest-based quiet rather than developed hookups or resort-style services, so expect cool mountain nights and variable weather come prepared with warm layers and gear suitable for high-elevation conditions. Recreation along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway is immediate: anglers find trout in the Lower Provo River, Soapstone Basin's nearby off-highway vehicle trails provide miles of riding, and a network of trails in the area supports hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding with access points into the High Uintas Wilderness. Practical details: sites can be reserved through Recreation.gov (payments accepted by cash, check, or Scan & Pay via the app), day-use parking is $15, an extra vehicle is $10, and individual campsites are listed at $27 (double-site rates are $53). Reservation policies include a $10 service fee withheld on cancellations; cancelling the day before or on arrival results in the $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the full amount), no-shows incur a $20 service fee plus the first night's fee, and date changes outside the original reservation window may carry a $10 change fee. Interagency pass discounts apply only to the recreation fee for individual campsites (eligible passes include the Senior Annual/Lifetime, Access, Golden Age and Golden Access passes), and refund requests are handled through your Recreation.gov profile or the call center with card refunds returned to the original card and cash/check refunds issued by Treasury check.
