“Great campground! Campground official was very attentive. Water availability would have been good though.”
“Nice location. Campsite & fire ring were clean. Woke up with a moose in the camp”

Skull Creek Campground sits high in a mixed ponderosa pine and aspen stand at about 7,400 feet, a compact campground of 16 sites that can accommodate either tents or RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring, and vault toilets are the only on-site facilities there is no drinking water available so plan to arrive with potable water and expect a relatively primitive, self-sufficient stay. The sites are partially shaded and summer brings scattered wildflowers through the understory; the campground is reached from Highway 44, just west of the junction with Highway 191, roughly 35 miles north of Vernal, Utah. For current fees, reservation rules and seasonal openings check with the Ashley National Forest office or the Flaming Gorge recreation information before you go. The campground is a convenient base for water-based and trail activities in the Flaming Gorge area. Greens Lake and Red Canyon are close by: Greens Lake is popular for canoeing and trout fishing (rainbow and brook trout), while the Red Canyon Rim Trail offers hiking, mountain biking and wildlife viewing; the Red Canyon Visitor Center provides interpretive displays and local information. On the larger scale, Flaming Gorge Reservoir supports boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving along with excellent trout fishing, and the Flaming Gorge Dam has a visitor center and guided dam tours. The Green River below the dam is a well-known river-rafting corridor, and services at Red Canyon Lodge on Greens Lake include canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant and a gift shop, making Skull Creek a quiet, practical jumping-off point for the diverse outdoor opportunities of Ashley National Forest and the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.
