“Great camping spot, close to the gas station, store/restaurant. Quiet even though closer to the road. Was a great trip. ”
“The spigot for potable water did not work. We needed to drive across the highway to the (empty) group site to fill our water cooler. Otherwise, everything was great.”

Greendale Campground sits at about 6,900 feet inside the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area of Ashley National Forest, under a stand of ponderosa pines that provide partial shade and a carpet of grasses and summer wildflowers. The site supplies ten campsites total each able to accommodate both RVs and tents and each site includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with a grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are on site; roads and spurs on the west side of the road are paved (east-side roads and parking are dirt), so most rigs and trailers can reach the paved spurs but expect a dirt surface if you park on the opposite side. Temperatures swing from warm daytime highs to cool nights at this elevation, so bring layers and be prepared for changing conditions. Confirm current fees, reservation requirements and seasonal openings with the Ashley National Forest or Flaming Gorge NRA before you go. Recreation at Greendale links directly to the water and trails of Flaming Gorge: Flaming Gorge Reservoir is under 5 miles away and Cedar Springs Marina sits about 3.5 miles from camp, where boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving are common; the reservoir is also known for lake, brown and rainbow trout fishing. Bear Canyon Trail begins roughly a mile from camp and is an easy 3-mile round trip that welcomes hikers and bikers with views toward Red Canyon and the water. A short drive will take you to Flaming Gorge Dam and its visitor center and guided dam tours; downstream, the Green River offers rafting through impressive geology, historic outlaw country and areas with Native American rock art. The broader Ashley National Forest supports biking, horseback riding, OHV use, interpretive programs, picnicking, wildlife viewing and visitor-center resources to help plan river and reservoir outings. For location, Greendale is on U.S. 191 through the Flaming Gorge area about 40 miles north of Vernal and within a short drive of Manila and the Dutch John area making it a convenient base for both on-water and on-trail days.
