Mustang Ridge Campground sits at about 6,300 feet on a high desert bluff overlooking Flaming Gorge Reservoir, where pinyon pine and juniper stand among sagebrush and the outer loop campsites sit right on the ridge for wide water views. The campground is substantial TOTAL CAMPSITES: 69 SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: - 69 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and includes several family sites (two are accessible) plus a group site that holds up to 40 people. Each site comes with a picnic table and campfire ring; roads and parking spurs are paved, which makes pulling in with a trailer straightforward. Basic services are provided on site: flush and vault toilets, drinking water and showers, and the host sells firewood. An amphitheater with bleacher seating and a screen support occupies the outer loop, offering a practical gathering spot for evening talks or small interpretive programs. Recreation is anchored by immediate water access: a boat ramp sits adjacent to the campground, so boating, water skiing and reservoir fishing are the most convenient activities here, and Sunny Cove Day Use Area within about a half-mile provides a quieter spot for swimming, canoeing or kayaking, plus hiking and rock climbing. Beyond the shoreline, Flaming Gorge Dam has a visitor center and guided tours of the hydroelectric plant, while the Green River below the dam is where outfitters run multi-day and day raft trips past dramatic geology, historic sites and Native American rock art. The broader Ashley National Forest offers biking, horseback riding, OHV routes, picnicking, wildlife viewing and interpretive programs, so Mustang Ridge is a good base for both water- and land-based days. Access to the campground is from U.S. 191 north of Dutch John via Forest Road 184 (the site is roughly 51 miles north of Vernal and reachable from Manila or Rock Springs via the highways noted on forest maps); check the Forest Service website or local ranger district for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal openings before you go.
