“Campground was very empty when we were here in Sept/October. Camp host Susie was very friendly and helpful. Sites were very large and the pit toilets were very clean. ”
“Showers were so clean. The host was so kind. We have always loved this campground, but this visit really was one of the best. Thank you!!”

Deer Run Campground sits at about 6,200 feet on the slope above Flaming Gorge Reservoir inside the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area of Ashley National Forest. The site is small and open total campsites: 18 (17 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites; 1 RV Sites) and the camps feel more like a functional basecamp than a shaded forest hideaway: juniper, pinyon pine and sagebrush dot the lots, shade is limited, and although the reservoir lies less than a mile below, the water is not visible from the loop. Basic comforts are provided on-site: each family campsite has a picnic table and a campfire ring, and the campground offers flush toilets, showers and drinking water. A dump station and Cedar Springs Marina sit immediately adjacent, so launching a boat or emptying tanks is convenient; a resident herd of deer is often seen moving through the area, which is how the campground got its name. Recreation at Deer Run is dominated by the reservoir and the marina next door Flaming Gorge is known for excellent lake, brown and rainbow trout fishing and for motorized water sports such as boating, water skiing and jet skiing, as well as non-motorized paddling, swimming and scuba diving. The easy Bear Canyon Trail, a 3-mile round trip for hikers and mountain bikers, begins nearby and leads to views of Red Canyon and Flaming Gorge, while guided tours of Flaming Gorge Dam and exhibits at the visitor center add historical and interpretive options. Downstream, the Green River below the dam is a popular rafting corridor rich in geology and rock art. For other needs, larger group sites are available at nearby Arch Dam, Greendale, Dripping Springs, Antelope Flat and Dutch John Draw campgrounds, and the broader Ashley National Forest offers biking, horseback riding, OHV routes, interpretive programs, picnicking and wildlife viewing. For current fees, reservation policies, seasonal openings and road conditions, check with the Ashley National Forest or the Flaming Gorge/Cedar Springs Marina before you go; the campground is accessed from U.S. 191 via Forest Road 183 near Cedar Springs Marina, north of Vernal and a short drive from Manila or Dutch John.
