“Campsite #2 was perfect for us in our Sprinter Van. It is very close to an amazing view of the gorge - a great cocktail & coffee overview. I do wish that the water was "on". The restroom was clean.”
“We loved staying here! The views are stunning and close by, like literally just a few hundred feet from the campsite. Very quiet and clean. Great hiking located nearby with even more excellent views!”
“This was our second time returning to the same camping spot, and will be back again. Love the quietness and proximity to the canyon. As a person who loves photographing nature, this spot is incredible!”

RED CANYON COMPLEX
Open in Google Maps ↗
Red Canyon Campground sits in a grassy high-mountain meadow at about 7,400 feet on Forest Road 095 (Red Canyon Road), roughly 40 miles north of Vernal, Utah. The site is compact eight family campsites in all and each site is set up to accommodate either tents or RVs; picnic tables and metal campfire rings come with the campsites, and vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Scattered lodgepole and ponderosa pines give some relief from the sun but shade is limited, and the campground looks out toward the red cliffs above Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Because this is the Red Canyon near Flaming Gorge, take care not to confuse it with the much larger Red Canyon in southern Utah (that one is a different system and not the same campground). Recreation is concentrated close by: Greens Lake is the nearest water for canoeing and trout fishing (rainbow and brook), and Red Canyon Lodge on the lake shore provides canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant and a small gift shop. The Red Canyon Rim Trail for hiking and mountain biking begins near the visitor center, which also offers interpretive displays and up-to-date area information. Beyond the immediate campground the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area expands opportunities to boating, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving, and is widely known for lake, brown and rainbow trout fishing; guided tours of Flaming Gorge Dam and rafting on the Green River are other common outings. For practical matters like current fees, reservation rules or seasonal access, check with the nearby visitor center or the Ashley National Forest office before you go.
