“Amazing, cool temperature place to stop at for a night when passing through in the late summer. Great place for trailers or tent camping since most points of interest are a bit of a drive away.”

Lodgepole Campground sits at about 8,000 feet in an aspen-and-pine stand a short drive from Flaming Gorge Reservoir, roughly 26 miles north of Vernal on U.S. 191. The site is small and fairly compact: there are 36 campsites in total, and each is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, with paved roads and paved parking spurs that make maneuvering easier for trailers and motorhomes. Several family-designated sites include a picnic table and campfire ring; flush toilets and drinking water are provided in the campground and firewood is available for purchase from the on-site host. The shady canopy of aspens and scattered pines gives welcome cover on summer days and produces notable fall color, while summer wildflowers add splashes of color through the understory. Outdoor options radiate outward from Lodgepole the reservoir is about 10 miles away and Cedar Springs Marina sits within that same short drive so many campers use Lodgepole as a base for water recreation. Flaming Gorge is known for lake trout, brown trout and rainbow trout fishing, and boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and even scuba diving are all popular on the reservoir. Onshore, the Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours and a visitor center with local history exhibits, and below the dam the Green River provides multi-day and day-run rafting through dramatic geology, with ties to outlaw history and Native American rock art. Within Ashley National Forest you'll also find opportunities for biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle use, picnicking and overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins for fees, reservations and current seasonal openings check with the Ashley National Forest office before you go.
