Kevan H ★ 4 · Jun 2021Beautiful location the only thing that could improve the site would be gravel on the walkways to the tables and gravel around the tables. Due to the extremely dry conditions the dirt has been trampled to dust when the wind blows or you walk through it is miserable.

Rock Creek Group Campground sits at about 7,200 feet on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains, set back from the main road in a cool, shaded stand of aspen and pine. The campground is a single group site (total campsites: 1) that can accommodate both RVs and tents and is sized to hold up to 75 people, making it a good choice for extended-family gatherings, scout groups or small clubs. Amenities are basic but practical: each group site includes picnic tables, campfire rings and grills, and vault toilets are on site; there is no running water, so everyone must bring their own water supply. Evenings tend to be cool and the grounds are dotted with sagebrush and seasonal wildflowers, providing privacy and a true mountain-canyon feel rather than a drive-by rest stop. For current fees, reservation rules and road conditions, check with the Ashley National Forest office before you go. The campground sits beside Rock Creek, which provides fishing for brown, brook and rainbow trout, and the creek corridor opens onto a network of trails. The Rock Creek Trail begins a little over a mile from camp and links to a paved interpretive trail at nearby Yellowpine Campground; from there the trail system gains access into the High Uintas Wilderness for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and backcountry fishing. Seasonal whitewater rafting and kayaking are possible on flows below the drainage, and Upper Stillwater Reservoir and the Lower Stillwater Ponds are within the general area for additional trout fishing, swimming and picnicking (Upper Stillwater is currently accessible only by hiking in). The site is reached from the Duchesne/Mountain Home area up Rock Creek Canyon expect a canyon road approach rather than an interstate exit and its location on the Rock Creek drainage makes it a practical base for day hikes and creek-based activities in Ashley National Forest.
