Aspen Campground sits at about 7,200 feet in the North Fork Drainage on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains, alongside the North Fork Duchesne River. The sites are set among stands of aspen, subalpine fir, lodgepole pine and spruce, with summer wildflowers in the understory and open views down the canyon from several campsites that face the river. The campground has 30 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs (single and double-family layouts), each with a picnic table and a campfire ring; a single group site holds up to 32 people and includes picnic and serving tables plus a campfire circle with bench seating. On-site amenities are limited to vault toilets and trash collection, and roads and parking spurs are dirt. The source information does not list potable water, electrical or sewer hookups, fees, reservation rules or seasonal opening dates, so plan to confirm those details with the Ashley National Forest office before you arrive. Recreation in and around Aspen Campground centers on the river and the backcountry access from the North Fork Drainage. Anglers come here for fly-fishing for brook, brown and rainbow trout on the North Fork Duchesne; hikers, mountain bikers, OHV riders and horseback riders will find trailheads nearby, including the Grandview Trail that provides access into the Granddaddy Lake region of the High Uintas and a network of high-elevation lakes for backpacking and backcountry fishing. Aspen is reached from Highway 35 about 13 miles west of Tabiona (roughly 28 miles from Duchesne when coming via Highway 87 to 35); it can also be approached from Highway 40 by taking Highway 208 north through Hanna into the North Fork Drainage. For broader services and additional forest activities boating, visitor information, interpretive programs and wildlife viewing check what's available elsewhere in Ashley National Forest before you go.
