“Hades is the best of everything you want in a campground!”

Wayne B 5 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Great place for camping with family. Close to some great trails if you have some off road toys to play with. We love having our kids float the river while we fly fish. Clean camp ”

About

Hades Campground sits in the North Fork Drainage off Highway 35, about 17 miles west of Tabiona and roughly 28 miles northwest of Duchesne, on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains. The site occupies a forested bench just above the North Fork Duchesne River at about 7,400 feet, shaded by aspen, subalpine fir, lodgepole pine and spruce. Fourteen campsites total make this a quietly compact facility; the campground offers a mix of single and double-family sites, and all 14 are configured to accommodate both tents and RVs. Sites come with picnic tables and metal campfire rings, and several pull up close enough to the river to provide direct water views. Roads and parking spurs are dirt, vault toilets are available, and there is routine trash collection on site. Outdoor options around Hades are straightforward and varied: the North Fork Duchesne is regularly fished for brook, brown and rainbow trout, and the Grandview Trail from the North Fork Drainage provides access into the Granddaddy Lake region of the High Uintas for backcountry fishing, backpacking and horseback trips. The surrounding area also supports hiking, mountain biking and off-highway vehicle touring on nearby routes, and horseback riding is commonly used on many trails. Hades lies within Ashley National Forest, which offers broader amenities and recreation such as boating, interpretive programs, swim spots, fire lookout/cabin overnight opportunities, visitor centers and wildlife viewing check the Forest Service for current maps and details. Fees, reservation policies and seasonal opening dates are not listed here, so plan to contact Ashley National Forest or the managing ranger district for up-to-date conditions, access advisories and any permit requirements before you go.
