Moon Lake Group Campground sits on the shore of Moon Lake on the southern flank of the Uinta Mountains at about 8,100 feet, where stands of lodgepole pine and pockets of aspen cast partial shade over the water's edge. The lake is the campground's focal point: canoeing and small-boat paddling are common, and anglers come for rainbow and cutthroat trout as well as Kokanee salmon and splake. Two named trailheads Lake Fork Trail and the Brown Duck Mountain Loop start at the site, opening into the High Uintas Wilderness and a chain of alpine lakes that are popular for backcountry fishing and horseback travel; Flying J Outfitters nearby runs guided horse trips. Moon Lake Resort sits adjacent to the campground and offers limited supplies, groceries and boat rentals, and the broader Ashley National Forest provides opportunities for biking, boating, OHV riding, interpretive programs, fire-lookout or cabin overnight options, swimming, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The campground is configured for groups: TOTAL CAMPSITES: 2, with each of the two large group sites able to accommodate up to 75 people and set up for both RVs and tents (2 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). Each site includes picnic tables and a campfire ring with a grill; the loop is served by accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, and a campground host located at the nearby Moon Lake Campground sells firewood. The site is reached from Duchesne by heading north on Highway 87 toward Mountain Home and then following county roads to Forest Road 131 roughly a 36-mile drive so check current Forest Service information for seasonal access, fees and reservation rules before you go.
