“Wish they would change the faucet connection on the group campground like the one down below so it would be easier to fill our tanks. Also it would be nicer if they didn’t have so many cows running wild to prevent cow pies in the campground. ”

Yellowstone Group Campground sits along the Yellowstone River on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains at about 7,700 feet, surrounded by stands of aspen, maple and Ponderosa pine. The campground's official listing shows a single group site that accommodates both RVs and tents and is sized to hold up to 40 people, four vehicles and four camp trailers/RV units; roads and parking spurs are gravel. Facilities are basic and practical: picnic tables and campfire rings at the group site, vault toilets, potable drinking water and trash collection. The site's simple footprint and riverbank setting make it feel remote even though it's served by a Forest Service road, and several first-come, first-served single sites are also reported in the immediate area for smaller parties. Recreation centers on the river and nearby trails. The Yellowstone River is open to anglers chasing rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, and the Yellowstone ATV Trail System with over 50 miles on the Petty Mountain and Dry Gulch loops is close by for OHV riders; those trails also permit hiking and biking. Beyond the campground, Yellowstone Canyon, a small reservoir and trailheads provide access to the High Uintas Wilderness for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and backcountry fishing. The campground is about 40 miles from Duchesne and reached via Mountain Home and Forest Road 119; note that FR 119 is rough and rocky in places, so check road conditions before you go. For fees, reservation requirements, seasonal openings and any permitting for the group site, contact the Ashley National Forest office before planning your trip.
