China Meadows Trailhead Campground sits high on the northern flank of the Uinta Mountains at about 10,000 feet, a small, timbered site tucked beside China Lake and serving as a direct trailhead into the High Uinta Wilderness. The campground's 11 single campsites each configured to accept both RVs and tents and rated for up to eight people are arranged with picnic tables and steel fire rings, and a vault restroom serves the loop. There is generous parking at the trailhead and campsites, and the site functions as a practical launch point for angling and paddling on the nearby lakes, day hikes and multi-day routes into the wilderness, and the network of trails used by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and OHV users. Because the campground is at high elevation, expect cooler conditions and a shorter season than lower-elevation sites; the setting is best suited to visitors prepared for mountain weather and who plan to use the trailhead for explorations of the surrounding lakes, streams and backcountry routes. Getting to China Meadows means driving from Mountain View roughly eight miles south on Wyoming State Highway 410 and continuing on gravel county and Forest Service roads to the China Meadows trailhead, so check road conditions before you go and plan for slower speeds on unpaved sections. The 11 single sites are $18 per night (day use is $15), extra vehicles are $10 each, and trailhead overnight parking is $5 per vehicle; payments are accepted by cash, check or Scan & Pay through the recreation.gov app. Reservations are managed through Recreation.gov and carry standard service and cancellation terms: a $10 service fee is withheld from any refund, and cancelling the day before or on arrival for an individual campsite results in the $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night bookings are forfeited in full); no-shows incur a $20 service fee and loss of the first night's fee. A $10 change fee applies if you move a reservation entirely outside the original dates, while extensions or shortenings that keep original dates usually carry no change fee; refund requests can be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends. Interagency pass discounts apply only to individual campsites (Senior Annual Pass, Senior Lifetime Pass, Access Pass, Golden Age Pass and Golden Access Pass) and require the pass holder to occupy the site.
