About

Hoop Lake Campground sits at about 9,000 feet on the shore of its namesake lake in the Uinta Mountains, roughly 35 miles south of Mountain View, Wyoming. The site is heavily timbered with clear views down to the water where anglers and small boaters spend much of their time; Beaver Meadow Reservoir is close by for additional fishing. The campground contains 44 total sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, and each single campsite includes a picnic table and a metal fire ring; vault toilets are the only restroom facilities on site. Trails for day hikes and horseback rides fan out from the lake, with easy access to the Hoop Lake trailhead and routes that lead toward the High Uintas Wilderness, so you'll see horse trailers as often as fishing boats. Wildlife is part of the everyday scenery here birds, elk, deer, moose and beaver are commonly seen and the setting feels remote, quiet and focused on outdoor recreation rather than developed comforts. Getting to Hoop Lake requires a few miles of slower county and forest roads after State Route 414, so plan for a mix of paved and oiled-gravel driving rather than a straight highway pull-in. Campsites are charged per night: single sites are $22 (each site holds up to 8 people plus one vehicle), an overnight group site is $72 (capacity 30), day use is $15, and extra vehicles are $10 each; accepted payment methods include cash, check, or Scan & Pay via the Recreation.gov app. Reservation and cancellation rules follow standard Recreation.gov policies a $10 service fee is withheld on refunds, late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) incur the $10 fee and forfeit the first night's use fee, and no-shows are assessed a $20 fee plus forfeiture of the first night; changes to dates outside the original reservation carry a $10 change fee while extensions or shortenings that include original dates generally do not. Interagency pass discounts (Senior/Golden Age, Senior/Lifetime, Access/Golden Access) apply only to the recreation fee for individual campsites and require the pass holder to occupy the site, and refund requests can be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after a reservation ends.
