“Browne Lake is my favorite place on Earth. We spend a week there every summer. I have never seen the bathrooms cleaner! Our camp host was so kind and helpful when we needed to move sites because we had friends coming. We visited on several occasions. What a wonderful lady. ”

Browne Lake Group Sites sit at about 8,200 feet in a high mountain meadow beside its namesake lake, where pines and aspens cast partial shade across grassy campsites and summer wildflowers color the edges of the clearing. The water is the focal point here: most sites have a view of Browne Lake and a short trail leads down to the shore for canoeing and other non-motorized boating. Anglers find rainbows, brook trout and kokanee salmon in the lake, and nearby Sheep Creek Lake offers cutthroat and brook trout fishing as well. The campground also links directly to trail networks Leidy Peak Trailhead is inside the site boundary so hikers, mountain bikers and ATV riders can head straight out onto the local routes that cross reservoirs, overlooks, forests and meadows. The campground contains four reservable, accessible group sites, each designed to accommodate up to 40 people and equipped with picnic tables and campfire circles; the sites are suitable for both tents and RVs. Single-family sites in the area are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Roads and parking spurs are dirt and the campground is reached by a well-maintained dirt access road; vault toilets are provided. For broader recreation and services, the nearby scenic loop toward Flaming Gorge opens onto miles of maintained dirt driving and ATV trails, and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area with its large reservoir, visitor center, dam tours and world-class fishing is within easy reach. Because high-elevation roads and access can be affected by seasonal conditions, check current Forest Service information for reservation details, seasonal openings and any vehicle requirements before you go.
