Lucerne Campground sits at about 6,100 feet on the shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, in a high-desert landscape of sagebrush with only a few scattered trees natural shade is limited, so plan for sun protection during the day and cooler nights. The campground contains a total of 139 campsites: 135 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 glamping sites. Sites are organized into named loops with specific counts: Loop A has 20 sites, Apartments: 4 sites, Loop B: 19 sites, Loop C: 19 sites, Loop D: 24 sites, Loop E: 25 sites, Loop F: 19 sites, plus 1 Group site and 8 Longterm sites. Loops A through D provide a fairly consistent setup each site has a picnic table, campfire ring (no grill), windbreak, 30 50 amp electric hookups and a parking spur; Loop D also includes tent pads and shade cabanas. Loops E and F forego electricity but offer shade cabanas, picnic tables and campfire rings. Many sites are accessible, and one group site (site B in the G Loop) is available for larger parties. Recreation centers on the reservoir: an adjacent boat ramp, marina and fish-cleaning station make boating, fishing, canoeing, water skiing and swimming straightforward day activities. Lucerne Marina on site provides boat rentals, fuel, slips, fishing licenses, bait and a small grocery selection. On-campground facilities include flush toilets, drinking water, showers and an on-site dump station. For things away from the campground, Flaming Gorge Dam and its visitor center with guided tours and exhibits are within easy reach, and the wider Ashley National Forest offers biking, horseback riding, OHV routes, interpretive programs, picnicking, wildlife viewing and historic fire lookouts/cabins. Access to Lucerne is via Wyoming Highway 530 from the Utah state line to Lucerne Valley Road/Forest Road 146, then roughly 4 miles into the site; for current fees, reservation windows, seasonal opening dates and any road conditions or access requirements, check the Forest Service or the recreation.gov listing before you go.
