Shiloh T ★ 5 · Jun 2025It's a great place to camp. We seen deer in our camp and my family went fishing in two different spots that were close by. At night you can really see the stars.

Uinta River Group sits roughly 25 miles north of Roosevelt, reachable by following State Highway 121 toward Neola and then continuing on the Uinta/Ouray Reservation road onto Forest Road 118. The site occupies an open meadow at about 7,600 feet shaded by tall Ponderosa pines; summer wildflowers and regular wildlife sightings give the area a lively, high-mountain feel. There is a single group site (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1) that functions as both RV and tent camping (site type: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites) and can accommodate groups of up to 150 people. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, and the campground layout includes several picnic tables plus multiple campfire rings with grills scattered through the area. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but water at the campground is not potable plan to bring all drinking water you need. The Uinta River runs nearby and is the focus for anglers and day-trippers: rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout are regularly taken from the river, and the Uinta River Trailhead just up the road provides access into the Chain Lakes region of the High Uintas Wilderness for hiking, backpacking and horseback trips to alpine lakes. Many other recreational opportunities exist across Ashley National Forest from biking and boating to OHV riding, interpretive programs and wildlife viewing but note that specific services and seasonal policies (fees, reservations, and possible closures) aren't listed here; check with the Ashley National Forest ranger district before you go. Practical notes: expect cooler temperatures at this elevation, bring your own potable water, and be prepared for rough gravel access if you're towing a trailer or in a low-clearance vehicle.
