Driftwood Campground sits on the shore of Three Creeks Lake in Deschutes National Forest, offering direct lakeside access from each of its 18 campsites all tent-only sites arranged so campers wake to views of the 28-acre alpine lake. The lake itself lies in a glacial cirque below Tam McArthur Rim at an elevation of 6,550 ft, with a maximum depth around 28 feet and a shoreline that ranges from gentle slopes to rocky cliffs. Practical facilities are minimal but well-suited to back-to-basics camping: every site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, and the campground provides vault toilets only, so visitors must bring their own water. Driftwood is also the trailhead for the Tam McArthur Trail, a relatively short, moderately easy hike that climbs to viewpoints of the Three Sisters peaks Faith (north), Hope (middle) and Charity (south) and makes the campground a convenient base for day hikes and photography. The lake encourages simple water recreation: shore or wade fishing is easy, but boat fishing is most popular with only non-motorized boats permitted, so bring a canoe or kayak if you plan to fish from the water. Beyond Driftwood, the Sisters area and Deschutes National Forest open up long lists of outdoor options auto touring along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, miles of hiking and horseback trails, fish-viewing at Camp Sherman, and interpretive sites such as the Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry National Volcanic Monument are within reasonable driving distance. Access to Driftwood is by Forest Road 16 south of Sisters (about 16 miles), and because the site is at high elevation access and conditions can change with the seasons, check current road and weather conditions before you go. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify it, and because potable water and advanced facilities are not provided, plan accordingly.
