“This is always the base camp I use to do South Sister. It's near by, not crowded and has excellent views of S. Sister and Broken Top. Stay here.”

Soda Creek Campground sits where Soda Creek crosses an open meadow on its way into Sparks Lake, a compact site with easy access to the lake's shoreline and views of the surrounding Cascades. The campground contains 10 total campsites; site type breakdown: 10 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, and vault toilets serve the loop, but there are no electric hookups and campers must bring their own water. While the listing accommodates RVs, trailers, and tents, only a limited number of sites are truly RV-friendly many sites are better suited to smaller vehicles or traditional tent camping so check vehicle fit when you reserve. From Bend, the campground is reached by heading roughly 26.2 miles west on the Cascade Lakes Highway (Highway 46), placing you on the scenic 66-mile Cascade Lakes corridor without long backcountry approaches. The immediate draw is Sparks Lake clear, shallow water resting on a porous volcanic bed fed by streams from Broken Top making it popular for paddling, quiet shoreline photography, and watching summer water levels drop as snowmelt seeps underground. Trails begin nearby: the Ray Atkeson Trailhead at the Sparks Lake day-use area wanders through lava channels and lodgepole pine, and the Ray Atkeson Memorial Overlook less than a mile in is one of the area's best vantage points. Beyond the lake, the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway provides a memorable auto-tour and access to a broad menu of Deschutes National Forest activities (boating, fishing, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, winter sports and more). Reservations and fees are managed through Recreation.gov; note that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation, so plan arrival and vehicle size accordingly.
