“Loved this campground so much! There’s was quite a bit of space between sites, bathrooms were clean (always stinky though, but that’s normal), the lake was beautiful, lots to do in the area, lodge store was great! ”
“A great campsite after a long day on the trail.”

Lava Lake Campground sits along the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range, about a 40-minute drive southwest from Bend. The campground occupies a lakeshore site at roughly 4,740 feet elevation where mature pine stands meet lava outcroppings and bull rushes edging the water; the shoreline terrain gives the site a mix of open lakeside spots and shaded campsites. There are 43 campsites in total: 38 are configured to accommodate both tents and small RVs or trailers, and 5 are tent-only. Onsite amenities are straightforward and focused on being on the water a day-use area and a boat ramp give direct access for launching small boats and for shore fishing, and several waterfront sites put the lake a few steps from your campsite. Recreation around Lava Lake ranges from quiet, lakeside activities to longer mountain outings. At the campground you can fish and launch a boat or swim, and the surrounding forest and scenic byway provide immediate access to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding routes; the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway itself is an auto touring route that climbs into the Cascades and links many alpine lakes and trailheads. Nearby attractions include the Lava Lands Visitor Center in Bend and the volcanic terrain of Newberry National Volcanic Monument, and the Deschutes National Forest offers hundreds of miles of additional trails and river access for further exploration. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; note that once a reservation's start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify that reservation, so plan arrival and changes accordingly, and check road and seasonal conditions for the Cascade Lakes Highway before you go.
