“Beautiful and quiet in late September. Campsites are clean and nice. If you have an rv do your homework. Some of the spots are a bit steep”

About

Cultus Lake Campground sits along the shore of Cultus Lake just off the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, about 46 miles southwest of Bend with a short spur on Forest Road 4635 to reach the site. This lake is one of the few along the byway that permits high-speed motorized watercraft, so expect a lively mix of activity on the water: waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing, jet skiing and open swimming are common in the summer months. For quieter outings, several trails leave from the lake area and provide access into the Three Sisters Wilderness, and the surrounding landscape offers clear examples of Central Oregon's volcanic history. The campground's location makes it convenient for both day boating from the developed launch in the day-use area and more rustic water access via a walk-in launch inside the campground itself. The campground contains 53 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs (all 53 are listed as both RV and tent sites), divided between two loops the smaller Loop 1 with 16 sites and Loop 2 with 37 sites. Sites are generally small and accessed by narrow roads, so RVs longer than about 30 feet are not recommended; tents and trailers are commonly used here. Many sites sit under a tree canopy and several offer direct water-front access; every site includes a picnic table and a fire ring, and vault toilets are placed throughout the campground. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; note that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
