“The spot was great. The people next to us were rude and ran their generator 24/7. ”
“It was a good stay, especially with only about a half dozen campers there. However, when they advertise having drinking water, they had the water system turned off. Fortunately, I had brought some water and didn't come empty as I sometimes do. There was no warning of no water. ”

Crane Prairie Campground sits along the east shore of Crane Prairie Reservoir, just off the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway where long lake views open toward South Sister and Mt. Bachelor. The campground contains 130 sites each set up to accommodate both tents and RVs with the site layout organized into three main loops: BLUE (63 sites), ORAN (22 sites) and REDA (21 sites). Many sites are right on the water, and most roads and parking spurs throughout the campground are paved, making access easier for trailers and tow vehicles. Sites come with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills; there are vault toilets and drinking water on site, and a boat ramp and fish-cleaning stations are located within the campground for anglers. Electric hookups are not available here; if you need showers or groceries you'll find a nearby resort that provides a small store and shower facilities. Recreation centers on the reservoir boating, fishing and swimming are the obvious draws, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife manages trout, mountain whitefish, brook trout and largemouth bass in these waters. Hikers, hunters and wildlife viewers will find the surrounding forest lively with waterfowl (including sandhill cranes), ospreys, bald eagles and songbirds, and mammals such as deer, beaver and the occasional black bear. Osprey Point, a short drive away, offers interpretive displays and viewing platforms for nesting raptors, and the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway provides easy auto-touring to other high-elevation lakes and volcanic features; Newberry National Volcanic Monument is within day-trip distance (roughly 25 40 miles) for Lava Lands exhibits, Lava River Cave and Paulina Lake scenery. Practical note for reservations: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation, so plan arrival and departure dates carefully.
