North Twin Lake Campground sits on the north shore of North Twin Lake, just north of the South Twin Resort, and offers a compact, straightforward camping experience framed by lava flows, nearby peaks and stands of older ponderosa pine. The campground contains 19 sites in total; each site is configured to accommodate either an RV or a tent and comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. There are vault toilets on-site but no water or electrical hookups, so plan to bring your own drinking water; an RV dump station is available a short drive away just after the entry to nearby Gull Point Campground. Access from Bend is via Highway 97 south toward Wickiup Junction and then west on Forest/County roads to the Twin Lakes area, and the campground is compact enough that sites are within easy walking distance of the lakeshore. The shallow end of North Twin Lake provides a small beach area that's good for wading and swimming, and fishing is a common draw; motorized boats are prohibited on this lake, making it a quieter spot for shoreline angling and paddlecraft. An interpretive route, Twin Lakes Trail #5.1, begins near the water and includes panels about local tree pests such as dwarf mistletoe, giving a short, educational hike right from camp. Beyond the campground you'll find extensive recreational opportunities throughout Deschutes National Forest hundreds of miles of trails, wilderness country, rivers and other lakes plus regional highlights within a roughly 45-minute drive such as Newberry National Volcanic Monument and the Lava River Cave. Note the campground's reservation policy: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
