“Awesome location and very well maintained!!”
“Early to mid June is when the wickiup reservoir starts emptying,so keep that in mind when booking. Other wise great access to the beach area behind campsites and lots of space in each site on the lakeside especially ”

West South Twin Campground sits where South Twin Lake gives way to the broad sweep of Wickiup Reservoir, about 27 miles south of Bend and reached by heading west off Highway 97 onto County Road 43 and the forest roads that lead to the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway. At full pool the reservoir has pine-edged shores, stands of willow and pockets of sand where people launch boats and wade; at low water the shoreline drops away into steep gravel and soil banks. The landscape around the campground includes wetlands, mixed conifer forest and rocky slopes that support shorebirds, porcupine, deer, bats and the occasional black bear. The site also rests on ground long used seasonally by Indigenous peoples historical wickiups once dotted this stretch of the Deschutes River now covered by the reservoir so the setting blends fishing- and water-oriented recreation with quiet natural and cultural features. Lava Lands Visitor Center and the Lava River Cave in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument are a short drive away and make convenient day trips if you want interpretive exhibits or a walk through Oregon's longest continuous lava tube. The campground itself offers 23 campsites in total: 18 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and five designated tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring, and the loop is served by flush toilets; a boat launch gives direct access to Wickiup Reservoir for boating, canoeing and swimming. Fishing here is a major draw Wickiup's warm surface water and cooler deep channels support brown trout (fish up to roughly 20 pounds have been taken, with common catches in the 5 8 pound range), kokanee, coho salmon, and healthy numbers of rainbow and brook trout, whitefish and chub. Hikers, bikers, wildlife viewers and anglers will find plenty to do, and the campground connects you to the broader Deschutes National Forest opportunities such as auto touring, horseback riding and winter sports. Fees and reservation windows vary by season, and reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation, so plan arrival dates carefully.
