“Mallard Marsh is our favorite campground. Love the access to the lake, ample parking, and area has enough space for several tents as well as our camper. We’ll continue our yearly family camping trip!”
“Always a wonderful place to visit. At a time when surrounding recreation areas were crowded and noisy, it was quiet and peaceful in camp. ”

Mallard Marsh Campground sits on the reed-lined north shore of Hosmer Lake, roughly 35 miles southwest of Bend along the Cascade Lakes Highway with a short drive east on Forest Road 4625; you'll pass South Campground before arriving at Mallard Marsh. The lake is shallow and unusually clear water drains through a porous lava rim at the north end so trout and salmon are often visible near the surface. Hosmer is designated "fly-fishing only," and the marshy shoreline makes paddling a canoe or kayak the easiest way to reach open water; the site is also a reliable spot for birding and wildlife viewing. On clear days the skyline includes Mt. Bachelor, the South Sisters and Broken Top, and nearby trails and horse routes give hikers and riders options for short outings into the surrounding Deschutes National Forest. Practical details are straightforward: the campground has 14 total sites, each configured for both RVs and tents and outfitted with a picnic table plus a fire pit with grill; vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water on site, so bring your own supply. Because sites are reservable, check Recreation.gov for current fees and to secure a spot; once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. Beyond fishing and paddling at Hosmer Lake, the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway nearby offers a 66-mile drive through high-country lakes and peaks, and the broader Deschutes National Forest provides additional recreation hiking, horseback riding, boating and wildlife viewing if you want to explore farther from camp.
