“Beautiful park. Park host was friendly and helpful.”
“Beautiful place to relax. Great view and access of the lake. Not too loud too, so that’s great. ”

Perched on the north shore of Elk Lake along the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, Elk Lake Campground sits about 33.1 miles southwest of Bend on Highway 46 and offers an open-water experience framed by volcanic peaks with clear sightlines to South Sister and Mt. Bachelor. The shoreline and nearby wetlands attract shorebirds and other wildlife, and the mix of forest and rocky slopes supports deer, porcupine, bats and the occasional black bear, so store food securely. The lake itself is set up for a wide range of water activity: both motorized and non-motorized boating are allowed, and the campground provides a boat ramp for easy access. Swimmers, anglers, windsurfers and waterskiers can all find conditions to enjoy, and the Elk Devils Trail begins here for hikers and riders who want to follow the historic route toward the Wickiup Plains and Devils Lake. Beyond the immediate lakefront, the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway offers a 66-mile drive through high mountain lakes and snow-topped peaks for auto touring and biking opportunities across the Deschutes National Forest. The campground has 18 campsites in total, and all 18 sites accommodate both RVs and tents; there are no electric hookups, so RV visitors should plan accordingly. Each site comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill, and the facility provides drinking water and vault toilets. A boat ramp and lakeside access are on-site, but other hookups and services are not available, so expect a relatively self-sufficient stay. Reservations and current fees are handled through Recreation.gov; note in particular that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation. Check Recreation.gov before you go for up-to-date availability and any seasonal access notices for the Cascade Lakes corridor.
