Blue Bay Campground sits on the south shore of Suttle Lake amid a mixed stand of pine and true fir, offering a compact, water-focused camping experience. The site inventory is small and straightforward: there are 24 total campsites, and all 24 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents; sites are standard picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, vault toilets and drinking water are provided, but there are no electrical or sewer hookups. Most campsites have easy access to the waterfront and the campground includes a shallow boat ramp, so bringing a boat or float tube is practical; motorized and non-motorized craft are both allowed on Suttle Lake. Access is convenient from Sisters roughly 13 miles northwest on Highway 20/126 to the Suttle Lake campground spur making Blue Bay a short drive from town while still feeling surrounded by forest and lakeshore. Recreation at Blue Bay centers on water and trail use: Suttle Lake supports naturally reproducing kokanee, brown trout, whitefish and crayfish, and anglers commonly launch from boats (float tubes are adequate and wading or limited shore fishing is possible). The 3.2-mile Suttle Lake Loop Trail threads the developed shoreline and links into a larger network of hiking and horseback-riding routes that begin near the campground, and in winter the area is used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Beyond the immediate lake you can follow Lake Creek toward the Metolius River or explore the broader Deschutes National Forest (and adjacent Ochoco National Forest) with its roughly 1,600 miles of trails and a wide range of outdoor offerings from auto touring, biking and OHV routes to interpretive programs and wildlife viewing. Practical note before you go: reservations are handled through Recreation.gov, and once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
