“As others have mentioned no water is available at the campground. Our group had a great time. Plan for lots of caterpillars if going in early August and it's a good idea to bring extra TP in case the vault toilets run out. ”

Bear Springs Campground sits on the southeastern edge of Mount Hood National Forest at about 3,000 feet, shaded by tall pine and fir and offering a quiet, secluded atmosphere where deer and other wildlife are commonly seen. The site is very small it has a total of 3 campsites: 1 site that accepts both RVs and tents and 2 tent-only sites so group gatherings should be planned with that in mind. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with grill; potable drinking water, vault toilets (non-flush), and trash collection are provided. There are no utility hookups, and parking surfaces are gravel and dirt, so RV visitors need to be self-contained and prepared for unpaved pull-throughs or turnarounds. A day-use area with a covered picnic shelter offers a place to spread out meals or assemble gear, and firewood is available for purchase from the on-site host. The campground makes a practical base for a range of outdoor activities in the Mt. Hood area. Short hiking routes and off-highway vehicle trails are close by, and the broader forest offers mountain lakes, streams, fishing, biking, climbing, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing; winter sports and access to fire lookouts and cabins are also part of the wider recreation mix. For destinations beyond the campground, Government Camp is roughly 19 miles away (summer snow skiing possible), the Deschutes River is about 24 miles for rafting and kayaking, and Warm Springs Tribal Lands are nearby. Specifics about fees, reservations, seasonal openings, or road conditions aren't provided here, so call the facility directly at (541) 467-2291 before you go to confirm availability and any current restrictions.
