“Gorgeous campground in the forest next to Timothy Lake. Large campsites. Quiet. Nice host. Watched the sun set over the lake both nights. Did the 11.5 mile hike around the lake, which was lovely. ”

OAK FORK CAMPGROUND
Open in Google Maps ↗
Oak Fork Campground sits on the southeastern shore of Timothy Lake at about 3,400 feet, offering direct lake access and long views across the roughly 1,400-acre reservoir created in 1956 for the Oak Grove Hydroelectric Project. The campground contains 50 total sites: 36 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, six glamping cabins, and eight tent-only hike-to sites; those eight are grouped in the Hike To loop while the developed East and West loops contain 26 and 16 sites respectively. Water recreation is the main draw here boating and sailing are popular on Timothy Lake, and the lake also supports swimming, windsurfing and fishing for kokanee salmon and several trout species. For land-based outings the relatively level, 12-mile Timothy Lake Trail loops around the lake and is open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders; that trail connects to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and provides access toward Clackamas Lake Campground. If you're interested in a bit of history, the Clackamas Lake Ranger Station Historic District is less than two miles away and preserves early 20th-century Forest Service architecture. Camp facilities are straightforward and practical: each campsite includes a picnic table and metal fire grill, drinking water is available, and accessible vault toilets are provided; an on-site host is present for questions during the staffed season. The six sleeping cabins (listed as glamping) are nonelectric and furnished with a twin-over-twin and a twin-over-full bunk, plus a table and two chairs mattresses are provided but you must bring your own bedding; cooking and smoking are prohibited in the cabins and pets are not allowed at cabin sites. Some sites are accessible. The nearest gas station and convenience store are about 18 miles away to the west on Highway 26, and the nearest grocery is around 23 miles away in Government Camp. Oak Fork is reached from Sandy by traveling east on Highway 26 toward Skyline Road (Road 42) and then following Forest Service roads to the campground entrance; it sits roughly 27 miles from the base of Mt. Hood. Reservations are charged in full at booking and a nonrefundable online reservation fee may apply; service fees apply for changes or cancellations and late cancellations can incur additional charges (see Recreation.gov rules and reservation policies). The location is staffed seasonally call (503) 834-2215 during the staffed period listed, or (503) 464-8515 for general information when unstaffed.
