About

Gone Creek Campground sits on the south shore of Timothy Lake at about 3,400 feet, with campsites framed by a mixed conifer forest and many sites offering direct lake views. Timothy Lake is a roughly 1,400-acre reservoir created in 1956 for the Oak Grove Hydroelectric Project, and the water is the obvious draw here: campers launch boats, sail, windsurf, swim and fish for kokanee salmon and several trout species right from the lake. The campground also puts you close to a network of trails the 12-mile Timothy Lake Trail loops around the water and is popular with hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, and it connects with the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail for longer treks. Historic interest is nearby as well; the Clackamas Lake Ranger Station Historic District is less than two miles away, and Mt. Hood and Timberline Lodge are roughly 28 miles to the northeast and west respectively, so day trips to the mountain are an easy addition to a lakeside stay. Practical details are straightforward for planning a visit: Gone Creek has 49 single-family sites, and every site is listed for both RV and tent camping, each equipped with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. The campground provides drinking water and accessible vault toilets, and a campground host is on-site during the staffed season to answer questions. Reservations are paid in full at booking (a non-refundable online reservation fee may apply for some facilities), and service fees apply for changes or cancellations late cancellations can incur additional charges, so check Recreation.gov's reservation rules for specifics. Staffing is seasonal; the site is typically staffed from late May through early September (call 503-834-2215 for local staff), and during the off-season contact 503-464-8515 for general information. Services are limited nearby: the closest gas/convenience store is about 18 miles west on Highway 26 and the nearest grocery is in Government Camp roughly 23 miles away, so plan fuel and supplies before heading down the forest roads that lead to the campground from Highway 26 near the Timothy Lake area.
