“We went late in the season so unfortunately the reservoir was drained and there were a lot of bees… and I mean a lot. Once we got past those things it was beautiful!”

Rock Creek Campground sits along the southeastern shore of a 180-acre reservoir at about 4,600 feet in a stand of mixed oak and pine, where many campsites back right onto the water and eagles are commonly seen on nearby nests. The reservoir is managed for irrigation so water levels fluctuate, but it remains a draw for anglers and paddlers: the lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and also holds bass and bluegill, and boating is allowed only with electric motors. A day-use area adjacent to the campground provides a boat ramp, picnic tables and a short hiking trail, and an unmarked footpath links Rock Creek to nearby Sportsman Campground and its network of off-road vehicle routes. If you're looking for other day trips, the ski areas, trailheads and sightseeing around Government Camp lie roughly 30 miles to the southwest at the base of Mt. Hood. The campground has 32 total campsites 27 are set up for both RVs and tents, and 5 are tent-only so it accommodates small RVs and families but RVs over 35 feet are not recommended. Sites are gravel-paved, each furnished with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; vault toilets and drinking water are available but there are no utility hookups. Water disposal locations can be found throughout the loop and firewood is sold by the host. Some sites are first-come, first-served, so plan ahead if you need a guaranteed spot; for current fees, seasonal openings, reservation options and road conditions on the Forest Roads that lead into this part of Mt. Hood National Forest, contact the facility at (541) 467-2291 before you go.
