Roaring River Group Campground sits on the east bank of its namesake stream, just a few feet from moving water and shaded by Douglas fir, maple and alder. The facility is a single group site (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1) designed to hold up to 50 overnight visitors and to accommodate both RVs and tents (site type breakdown: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites); parking space on site fits as many as 10 vehicles. Daytime options are close at hand: anglers will find river fishing right out the door, while hikers and mountain bikers can use nearby trailheads in the Box Canyon area including the McBee and Roaring Ridge trails, the latter winding through Douglas fir stands with occasional views toward the South Fork of the McKenzie River. Birdwatchers and wildlife viewers often spot osprey, great blue herons and bald eagles along the stream corridor, and the larger Willamette National Forest around you offers a broad range of outdoor pursuits from boating and swimming to horse riding, OHV use and winter sports depending on season. The campsite provides the basics you'll need for a group outing: picnic tables, metal campfire rings, vault toilets and dumpsters, but no potable water, so plan to bring your own supply. Access to the site is reached via Aufderheide Drive/Forest Service Road 19 roughly 22 miles south from Highway 126 east of Eugene, and entry is controlled through a locked gate that requires a combination check with the Willamette National Forest office or your reservation confirmation for the code and any current gate policies. Because fees, reservation windows and seasonal access can change, confirm availability, rates and whether reservations are required before you go; for broader trip planning the nearby Three Sisters Wilderness provides hundreds of miles of trails and additional non-wilderness biking and hiking routes within about 10 miles.
