“Lovely campgrounds and very well maintained. A bit more crowded than I like, but still pretty quiet this visit.”
“This is our 5th year coming to waldo! Camp Host Doug has been there all 5 years. He keeps the facilities immaculate! The pristine nature of the lake and the shallow waters near the north campground are perfect for families! ”
“We were unable to go to North Waldo because of the forest fire.”

Perched on the western slopes of the Cascades at about 5,400 feet, North Waldo sits on the northern shore of Waldo Lake, a clear, deep basin (roughly 9.8 square miles, max depth 427 feet) that lacks a permanent inlet and allows unusually long visibility in calm water. The campground is oriented toward the lake: a deeper-than-average boat launch at North Waldo makes it a favored spot for sailboats and larger watercraft, and the shoreline is easy to reach for swimming, canoeing and fishing. Trails radiate from the area the Jim Weaver Loop circles the lake with roughly 20 miles for hikers and cyclists (note bikes are allowed on that loop but not in the contiguous Waldo Lake Wilderness), the Pacific Crest Trail is accessible nearby, and a one-mile Shoreline Trail links North Waldo with Islet Campground. North Waldo is also a common jumping-off point for wilderness destinations such as Rigdon, Wahanna and Torrey Lakes. Expect fewer mosquitoes here than at lower elevations, though they can still be plentiful in season. The campground offers 41 sites in all: 38 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and 3 tent-only sites; most sites include a fire ring and picnic table (use of campfires is subject to any current forest restrictions). The site is managed by American Land & Leisure, which handles reservations and posts current fees and seasonal opening information comment cards are available from campground hosts or via their website. Access is rural: from Oakridge head east on Highway 58 for about 25 miles to the Waldo Lake Road and follow the forest roads to North Waldo, so motorists should be prepared for forest-road driving for the final stretch. Beyond the campsite itself, Willamette National Forest activities in the area include biking, boating, hiking, wildlife viewing, swimming and winter sports; pack layers and check road and weather conditions before you go, since the high-elevation setting affects seasonal access and conditions.
