“This campground is beautiful and well cared for. We appreciate that it is now open later in the season than in the past!”
“Camp hosts were amazing, campsite was large, clean and quiet and pet friendly. Lake was beautiful and trail was well maintained and easy to walk on for my dog and I. ”
“You privatized the hosting duties of the campground and they're doing a terrible job of keeping the hosts aware of whether spots are reserved or not. My spot was occupied by jerks who just assumed it wasn't reserved because there wasn't a "reserved" sign. END PRIVATIZATION. ”

Shadow Bay Campground sits on a broad bay at the south end of Waldo Lake amid tall conifers, offering direct access to one of Oregon's clearest high-elevation lakes. Waldo Lake spans about 9.8 square miles with a maximum depth of 427 feet and, because it has no permanent inlet, often has visibility out to 120 feet on calm days conditions that make the water excellent for sailing, canoeing, fishing and swimming. A paved boat ramp is on site, and the Shoreline Trail runs along the lakeside of the campground, linking into the Jim Weaver Loop (a 22-mile hiking and biking route) and a network of footpaths that penetrate the surrounding forest and lead toward the Waldo Lake Wilderness (note: mountain bikes are not allowed once you enter Wilderness). Shadow Bay tends to be wetter than nearby campgrounds such as North Waldo or Islet, with lusher groundcover and more mosquitoes; plan on insect repellent and expect a quieter atmosphere than its busier neighbor. The campground is compact there are 21 campsites in total, and each is suitable for both RVs and tents so it feels intimate compared with larger recreation areas. Basic services you can count on include garbage containers and gray-water disposal; a boat ramp provides the main lake access. Because Shadow Bay sits at about 5,400 feet on the western slopes of the Cascades, temperatures are cooler and roads or site availability can be affected by seasonal snow, so check current road conditions before you go. For reservations, fees, seasonal openings and any up-to-date restrictions, consult the U.S. Forest Service or recreation.gov. From Oakridge, travel east on Highway 58 to the Waldo Lake Road (Forest Road 5897/5896) and follow the forest roads to the lake; once you're there, the trails afford framed views of the snow-capped North, Middle and South Sisters on clear days and plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing and quiet paddling.
