“Stayed here two times this year! Camp host was friendly and accommodating! ”
“Clean and private campground. Our site was right on the river and was well maintained. The bathrooms were super clean. There is no cell service here which added to the experience. ”

French Pete Campground
Open in Google Maps ↗
French Pete Campground sits at about 1,800 feet where French Pete Creek meets the South Fork of the McKenzie River, and its 16 small campsites are set deep under a canopy of Douglas firs and vine maple that keeps the site noticeably cooler in summer. Fourteen sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents while two are tent-only; there are toilets, a hand pump for drinking water, fire rings at each site and regular garbage service. Campsites back right up to the creek and river, so you can fall asleep to running water and step out for a short walk to fishing or a riverside picnic. The campground is reached from Blue River by following Highway 126 east to Aufderheide Drive (Forest Road 19) and then continuing on the forest road for roughly 11 miles into the recreation zone, so plan for a forest-road approach rather than highway-side amenities. The surrounding Willamette National Forest offers a wide range of activities: the McKenzie River is immediately accessible (note trout fishing there is catch-and-release), and several miles of hiking are available through the French Pete Creek and Box Canyon trail areas and into the Three Sisters Wilderness; additional trailheads lie a short drive away. Mountain bike routes, Cougar Reservoir and Hidden Lake for boating and swimming, and Terwilliger (Cougar) Hot Springs are all within roughly ten miles, along with boat ramps and lake access. Because fees, reservation policies and seasonal road or site availability can vary, check the Willamette National Forest or recreation.gov before you go and verify current road conditions on Aufderheide Drive; the campground's facilities are basic (no hookups reported), so come prepared for primitive, riverside camping.
