Horse Creek Group Campground sits on the banks of Horse Creek on the western slopes of the Cascade Range, shaded by tall Douglas fir and Western red cedar where the creek's clear water eventually joins the McKenzie River. The site functions as a single group unit the official campsite inventory lists one combined RV-and-tent site and the group area is described as accommodating up to 100 campers and roughly 23 vehicles, making it suitable for larger gatherings. Basic amenities are provided for group use: drinking water, picnic tables, vault toilets and metal campfire rings, and there's a dedicated picnic/grilling area. Visitors should plan to bring their own firewood. Access is via Highway 126 east of Eugene to the McKenzie Bridge area, then a short drive on Horse Creek Road; the fee for using the group site is $75.00 per night. Recreation centers on the water and the nearby McKenzie River corridor. Horse Creek offers fishing close to camp, while the McKenzie River National Recreation Trailhead nearby opens up about 26 miles of easy, family-friendly hiking and biking along the river; developed boat launches on the McKenzie provide wider access for boating and fishing. Cougar Reservoir lies about ten miles to the southwest for additional boating opportunities, and the broader Willamette National Forest around Horse Creek supports activities such as wildlife viewing, swimming in suitable spots, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle routes, and winter sports where conditions permit. The campground's river-bank setting, shade, and picnic facilities make it a practical choice for groups focused on water-based recreation and trail access rather than dispersed backcountry camping.
