Limberlost Campground sits in a compact stand of Douglas fir and cedar beside the steady murmur of Lost Creek; vine maple and thimbleberry add pockets of shade and privacy around the sites. The Forest Service lists the campground as a single reservable campsite configured to accommodate both RVs and tents so while the footprint is small, it functions as a group-style site rather than many individual drive-up campsites. Facilities are basic and rustic: each unit includes a picnic table and a metal fire ring, and the campground provides vault toilets and garbage service. There is no drinking water on site, so bring your own; firewood can be purchased at nearby Olallie Campground. The name comes from Gene Stratton-Porter's novel Girl of the Limberlost, a nod to the area's natural-history appeal. Access is from Highway 242 east of McKenzie Bridge, a short drive into the forested corridor of the McKenzie River country. Limberlost is well placed for outdoor pursuits: Lost Creek offers spots for angling and cooling off, while the trailheads and alpine landscapes of the Three Sisters and Mt. Washington Wildernesses are within easy reach for day hikes and longer backpacking trips. If you prefer gentler pursuits, Belknap Hot Springs is nearby for a soak, and several non-wilderness trails in the forest are suitable for mountain biking. For services beyond what the campsite provides, the small towns of McKenzie Bridge and Blue River have general stores and restaurants. Because fees, reservation rules and seasonal access can change, check current Willamette National Forest information or the recreation.gov listing before you go; and remember to pack potable water, appropriate heat sources, and basic supplies since on-site amenities are minimal.
