Alder Springs is a very small, no-reservations option inside the larger Willamette National Forest: there is a single campsite available, and it is set up to accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles. Sites are strictly first-come, first-served, and you must physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim the site. Payment on-site may be handled by scanning a QR code with the Recreation.gov mobile app (use the Scan and Pay feature), so download the free Recreation.gov app before you leave some parts of the forest have limited or no cellular service, which can affect whether that option will work when you arrive. The basic fee is $10 per night for the single campsite; additional vehicles are charged $5 per vehicle per night. While Alder Springs itself is a single-site, low-key stopping point, it sits within the recreation-rich Willamette National Forest, where opportunities extend well beyond the campsite. The surrounding forested landscape supports biking and hiking, fishing and boating, picnicking, wildlife viewing, winter sports and swimming in appropriate areas, and facilities and routes for off-highway vehicles and horse camping; the forest also contains fire lookouts and cabins that can be used overnight. Because Alder Springs is a simple, one-site facility, it makes most sense as a quiet base for one party looking to explore those broader activities rather than a developed campground with multiple amenities check Recreation.gov or the Forest Service for current seasonal access and trail or water conditions before you go.
