“Great place. Beautiful hiking trails and bike trails everywhere. The camp host cleaned the bathroom twice a day!! The beach was incredible! I’m sure its crazy in the summer!!”
“Campground was excellent. Camp Host was knowledgeable and helpful. Rest rooms were immaculate. Recommend hiking the Alpine Way trail to the lake. Paddle Boarding and swimming were great. The water is so pristine.”
“Enjoyed this campground. It was clean and spacious with lots of outhouses and clean water. We used it as a base camp as we canoed surrounding lakes.”

Alturas Lake Inlet Campground sits on the shore of Alturas Lake at the foot of the Sawtooth Range, reached by following Alturas Lake Road (Forest Road 205) roughly three miles off Highway 75. The site has 27 family campsites each one designated for both tents and RVs spread through a mixed-growth conifer stand where Alturas Creek threads the campground and summer wildflowers carpet the banks. Roads and parking spurs are gravel; vault toilets and a potable drinking-water source are provided. Several sites look out over the lake or the creek, and a day-use area with a designated swim beach sits adjacent to the loop. If you plan to launch a boat, Smokey Bear Boat Ramp is under a quarter-mile away. Expect cool mountain nights even in summer (average highs around 78°F and lows near 40°F). Recreation at the campground centers on the lake: boating, water-skiing, paddling and shore fishing are all immediate options, with bull trout and Kokanee salmon reported in Alturas Lake. A 10-mile round-trip hike on the Alpine Meadows Trail begins nearby, offering canyon, meadow and alpine-lake views and good birding; the broader Sawtooth National Recreation Area contains roughly 750 miles of trails for longer hiking and biking. Within a few miles you'll find Perkins, Pettit and Yellowbelly Lakes for additional fishing and paddling, and the Salmon River downstream for trout fishing. Other activities available across the Sawtooth National Forest include auto touring, horseback riding, OHV use on designated routes, picnicking, wildlife viewing and winter sports. The campground description does not list fees, reservation rules or seasonal opening dates, so check with the Sawtooth National Forest / Recreation Area office before you go for current regulations, fee information and any closure or permit requirements.
