Outlet Campground sits at about 6,500 feet on the western shore of Redfish Lake beneath the Sawtooth peaks, where lodgepole pines and summer wildflowers frame lakeside views of Mount Heyburn and the outlet of Fishhook Creek. The site contains 18 campsites in total; all 18 sites accommodate both RVs and tents, and several are laid out as family sites with lake or mountain vistas. Practical comforts include flush toilets, drinking water, and paved roads with paved parking spurs; a dump station is located just over a mile from the campground. Sandy Beach Boat Ramp is less than a mile away for easy launching, and the Redfish Lake Visitor Center about a quarter mile down the road runs interpretive activities, evening programs and exhibits that help orient first-time visitors. Summer daytime temperatures average around 78°F with cool nights near 40°F, so be prepared for brisk evenings at this elevation. The campground is a direct jumping-off point for water- and trail-based recreation: on Redfish Lake you'll find boating, water-skiing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, while Little Redfish Lake a short drive away offers additional paddling and angling. Nearby trailheads give access to the Alpine Way, Fishhook Creek, Redfish Lake Creek and Bench Lakes Trails, and the Idaho Centennial Trail passes close enough to include in longer treks. Redfish Lake Lodge sits nearby with a restaurant, general store, boat and kayak rentals, mooring services, lake tours and a shuttle, and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area hosts numerous events through the summer and early fall (arts fairs, Wagon Days, the Salmon Festival, Quilt Fair and Fireman's Ball among them). For planning, check current fees, reservation policies, seasonal openings and any access requirements with the Sawtooth National Forest or the Redfish Lake Visitor Center before you go; the broader forest supports many activities including auto touring, biking, horseback riding and camping, as well as winter sports and wildlife viewing.
