Rebecca C ★ 3 · Sep 2025This campground is absolutely beautiful and close to the Lodge for food and the water for sports and trailheads for hiking! Unfortunately there is no policy for first come first serve at the campgrounds in this area. It is all at the discretion of each individual campground host and sometimes they give out conflicting information and downright incorrect information—so beware!
Matt B ★ 5 · Sep 2025I spent a night in spot #1 close to the host site before backpacking through the Sawtooths. The whole process to walk up and get a good nights rest before hitting the trail was super easy, and I was even visited by an owl in the early morning which was pleasant. This campground is very clean and sits next to Orval Hansen Point Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches I've experienced in Idaho.
Crystal T ★ 3 · Aug 2025The campsite itself was great!! I would definitely book again. What was not so great is a group moved into an abandoned campsite at 11 pm and from then until 2 a.m. were very loud and abnoxious. Also, our kids were in a different campsite and another neighbor who paid for her campsite let us know she was leaving and we could have her paid site if we wanted. We moved the kids to be next to us and the host charged us the full site fee. We ended up paying double. I didn't realize that is a thing.

Perched at about 6,500 feet on the shore of Redfish Lake and set against the Sawtooth Range, Point Campground is a compact, water-focused site where summer days are cool (average highs near 78°F and lows around 40°F). The campground contains a total of 16 campsites: eight walk-to tent-only sites and eight sites that accept both tents and small RV-type vehicles (trucks with campers and vans only; motor homes and trailers are not permitted). Most sites look out over the lake, and the setting is shaded in places by lodgepole pines with summer wildflowers in the understory; Fishhook Creek runs nearby. Roads and parking spurs inside the campground are paved, flush toilets and potable drinking water are available on site, and a dump station is located close by. Because the campground is reached from State Highway 75 about six miles south of Stanley via Forest Roads 214 and 213, the final stretch is forest-road driving check current access conditions before you go. The lake is the main draw here: Redfish Lake supports boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, while a designated swimming beach and dock sit at the adjacent public day-use area and Sandy Beach Boat Ramp is about a mile across the water. Little Redfish Lake is also nearby for quieter paddling and fishing. Trail access from Point is strong the Alpine Way, Fishhook Creek, Redfish Lake Creek and Bench Lakes trailheads are close by, and the Idaho Centennial Trail passes nearby part of roughly 750 miles of trails in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. For supplies and services, Redfish Lake Lodge is within easy reach and offers a restaurant, general store, boat and kayak rentals, mooring and shuttle services. Seasonal events at the lake include an Arts and Crafts Fair in July and several fall festivities in September; fees, reservation policies and exact seasonal openings can change, so contact Sawtooth National Forest for current information before planning your trip.
