“The campground is in a beautiful setting along the Salmon River. It is modest sized so generally quiet. There is some nearby road noise. We enjoyed our stay here and would return.”
“We loved it there so much that we stayed an extra night...the camp host was wonderful and we had a great chat with her!!!”

Sunny Gulch Campground sits on the north side of Highway 75 about three miles south of Stanley, tucked between the road and the Salmon River so many sites have immediate river access and open views toward the Sawtooth Mountains. The campground contains 45 sites in total: 44 that accommodate both RVs and tents and a single tent-only site; roads and parking spurs are paved, making it straightforward to pull in with a travel trailer. Lodgepole pines provide partial shade and summer wildflowers color the understory; average summer highs run near 78°F with nighttime lows around 40°F. Basic comforts are provided on site vault toilets and drinking water and a large picnic shelter sits adjacent to a cluster of campsites. That shelter is equipped for group gatherings with a grill, utility tables, a dutch oven cooking surface and eight picnic tables, which is why the site is often used for family reunions, weddings and other events. Outdoor opportunities extend well beyond the campground itself because Sunny Gulch lies within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and the broader Sawtooth National Forest. Excellent river fishing is literally at your back door expect rainbow trout, Westslope cutthroat trout, occasional hybrid cutbows and bull trout and trailheads are close by: the Alpine Way Trail starts less than a mile away and the Idaho Centennial Trail passes nearby. Redfish and Stanley Lakes are short drives for boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and more fishing, and the valley contains roughly 750 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Other regional activities include auto touring, OHV routes, picnicking, swimming, wildlife viewing and winter sports. For details on fees, reservations and seasonal openings, check with the Sawtooth National Forest or recreation.gov before you go.
