Bull Trout Campground sits at about 6,900 feet on the shore of Bull Trout Lake, where a mixed stand of Douglas fir and lodgepole pine filters afternoon light and summer wildflowers pepper the understory. The lake itself is for non-motorized watercraft only, making it a quiet place for canoeing and kayaking; a primitive boat ramp on the lake's west side provides the main launch point. Anglers will find brook and rainbow trout in Bull Trout Lake, and nearby Martin Lake is also stocked with rainbow. If you like to explore on foot, two longer routes begin in the area the 11-mile Warm Spring Trail for hikers and the 35-mile Kirkham Ridge Trail that is open to hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and dirt biking while many other singletrack and forest routes are accessible from the campground. From the Boise area the site is reached by heading north through the central forest corridor toward Lowman and then east on Highway 21 into the forest near milepost 107, followed by a short Forest Road drive. The campground has 38 sites in total: 34 that accommodate both RVs and tents and four designated equestrian sites. Group sites are available as well and each can hold up to 50 people; equestrian sites include corrals and large spurs and may be reserved only by equestrian users if an equestrian site is not reserved it may be used by other visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. Many single and double sites are accessible, and some campsites sit on the waterfront with direct lake access while others simply enjoy lake views. Facilities are straightforward and rustic: vault toilets, drinking water, trash collection, and dirt roads and parking spurs throughout the loop; a campground host is on-site. There is a $5 vehicle day-use fee to enter the campground. The setting and nearby trail network make this a good base for non-motorized boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and off-highway-vehicle exploration of the broader Boise National Forest.
